Southeast Atlantic Economic Impact Statement
To Incoming Trump Administration & D.O.G.E.
The Southeast Atlantic Coastal Waters is a wealth of opportunity for recreation and commerce. It provides opportunities for both recreational fishermen and commerce from a variety of business that make a living in one way or another from the oceans bounty. She provides opportunities for families to fish, dive and cruise the waters for wildlife observation and relaxation.
A large part of this life is about to be brought to a screaming halt by the unjustified over reach of the Federal Government, specifically N.O.A.A. and its bloated sub agencies within. They have for the past 15 + years been slowly tightening the noose around the taxpayers necks by implementing systematic restrictions on fishing regulations, then finally closing the harvest of selected species altogether. A number of businesses have already been bankrupted, the list continues to grow daily.
These regulations are not being implemented for the good of the ocean or even the species being regulated. It is a method by which unelected bureaucrats can bully the people and flex their authority over us. The only time they relax their death grip is when it is profitable to them to do so. Example; the excessive licensing fees that Gulf Coast Florida fishermen bowed down to. These agencies are full of people that have never participated in the industry that they regulate. Furthermore they are bureaucratic appointees, not representatives elected to do so by we the people as they should be.
N.O.A.A. regulators are about to make a bold move that will devastate not only the commercial fishing industry but will cause wide reaching negative economic impact to many industries that in one way or another touch the water. The charter industry will be so negatively impacted that it will all but cease to exist from North Carolina to the Keys and beyond. The bait industry, tackle industry and some boat manufacturers may meet similar fates. Their decision will effect prices and availability of seafood at restaurants and at the grocery store. The tourist industry and many other businesses will feel the effects all because some unelected bureaucrats want to exert their authority over the peasants they regulate. It will help the foreign import market where fish are grown in pens and fed waste by products.
They claim that their decisions are based on science, however their science is fatally flawed and that can be easily proven. They have the reef ecosystem so screwed up that some deep water species are migrating into shallow waters and rivers while others are all but extinct in areas where they were previously abundant. Opposing experts with actual first hand knowledge vehemently oppose their published findings. Their “Scientific Analysis” for which they base their regulations is so flawed that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission has initiated its own research project to gather actual scientific data to help us all determine populations and health of our reef fish species so that we all can benefit from regulations that will preserve sustainable populations for future generations. Furthermore, on a state level, Florida residents recently unanimously decided fishing was a constitutional right. N.O.A.A.’s closure will shut down this F.W.C. survey thus preventing anyone other than N.O.A.A. from possessing any true population data.
We can only hope that our incoming elected officials will take notice and halt this overreach, before our businesses begin to fold like a deck of cards and recreational fishing is extinct.
Please hear our pleas.

The website you are accessing contains a digital dashboard with links to:
N.O.A.A.’s published positions and plans as well as opposing documents and observations countering the Southeast Fisheries Council’s ( N.O.A.A.) position and spotlighting their total disregard for factual opposing opinions and scientific facts.
It also contains supporting documents from effected and potentially effected industry officials.
As well as supporting documents, testimony, and thorough survey’s from this group’s members as well as other recreational/commercial/charter fishermen, divers, as well as any industry that makes their livings off of the ocean within the effected areas that have first hand, personally observed knowledge of the effects and devastation caused by the impact of N.O.A.A.’s over reach.
